Greetings to all:
This morning I made a trip to Staunton River State Park to look for
shorebirds and terns.
The shorebirds numbers were less then they were 2 weeks ago and still no
terns or unusal herons or egrets.
However will looking at the shorebirds a large legged wader made it way into
view that turned out to be a Glossy Ibis. This was my second record of a
Glossy Ibis seen in the park. While looking at the Glossy another large
wadder made its way down the deep ditch in which they were feeding. It
turned of to be an immature White Ibis and just behind it was another one
and another one and another one and yet another one until I counted 11 White
Ibis.
After a few minutes the White Ibis made there way further out into the
mudflats and when I finished counting all of them the total was 20. After
about half an hour 5 more flew in to join the 20. I spotted the first Ibis
at 0800 hours and watched them until 1030 hours.
At 0945 hours 14 of the 25 White Ibis and the one Glossy Ibis took off
together and flew down towards Clarksville. I watched the remaining 11
until I left at 1030 hrs.
Shorebirds seen included the following:
Killdeer
Semi-palmated Plover
Black-bellied Plover
Least Sandpiper
Lesser Yellowlegs
Spotted Sandpiper
Pectorial Sandpiper
A large number of both American and Fish Crows were very active and vocal
all day.
