I believe the dearth of fish is responsible for the adults' inability to feed
their chicks and thus the death of the chicks. Vultures generally eat carrion
and generally do not do things like kill eagle chicks. The appearance of the
vultures at the nest after the adults had abandoned it indicated to me that
there was something in there for them to eat. Something dead. Something like
the chicks. I surmise this, but as the chicks never got big enough to pick
their heads up and be seen, it is as I said only a surmise. Sorry that I was
apparently unclear about the sequence of the seeming series of events.
