At last! We finally recorded Swainson's Warbler. Not only was it
recorded, but we all saw one well for ten minutes singing near the track just
north of five-points along Jericho Ditch. Another singing male, that occupies
a territory in the triangle formed by Lynn and south Jericho Ditches, nearly
took our heads off as a flew through the group. We heard a total of seven
singing Swainson's Warblers. The group that showed up at 6:30 am and got this
show included Renee Hudgins, Jethro Runco, Pam Dummitt, Ann Esmas, and Gene
Burreson.
Birds that were new for me this year in the swamp besides the Swainson's
Warbler were Worm-eating Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Acadian Flycatcher,
Wood Thrush, and the most unusual bird of the morning, a gorgeous Grasshopper
Sparrow almost under foot.
