Margaret Mitchell and I spent a couple of hours at Craney this afternoon and
found lots of ducks. The south impoundment was loaded with Northern Shovelers.
On the other side of the cross road were lots of Ruddy Ducks and a few
Canvasbacks. Out in the water on the west side, we saw rafts of Ruddies, with
Buffleheads , Black Ducks, and a few Hooded Mergansers closer in. Off the
north perimeter road, we spied a flock of perhaps 20 or 30 Canvasbacks. And in
the pond by the paved road, we found some Gadwall and Black Ducks.
The perimeter road was in very good condition , better than I recall ever
seeing it before.
