At approximately, 11:30 a.m. today, while monitoring bluebird boxes at
George Washington’s Ferry Farm in Stafford County, Heidi Krofft and I
observed two high-flying COMMON RAVENS in a kettle of 12 Black Vultures and
two Turkey Vultures. We watched the ravens for several minutes comparing
their size, head, wing and tail shape, and overall behavior to the other
birds in the kettle. This observation helped to rule out other possible
species such as American or Fish Crow, or any of the other raptors. Both
ravens eventually peeled off together from the kettle heading in a
North-northeast direction.
This is my first record of Common Raven at Ferry Farm in my 12 years of
birding there.
