Blandy was cool and birdy this a.m. 2 Ruby-throated Hummingbird juveniles were
in a mimosa tree across the road from the weather station. The Bobwhite(s)
called continuously. Juvenile Green and Blue Herons were in the new pond with a
Solitary sandpiper. Tree Swallow and Purple Martin young filled the sky over
the ponds and fields. The Red-headed woodpecker nest continues to be active at
the south east corner of the farm on Berry's Ferry rd.
The bridge work on the Shearman trail at Sky Meadows (east) is done and the
trail appears open. Red-headed woodpeckers nests and an abundance of
butterflies have benefited from the trail closure Some trail maintenance and
mowing will finish the job nicely. A recent report of chiggers on the bridle
trail will keep me away til it cools down.
