While taking a group of visitors kayaking to Raccoon Island yesterday (around
1:10 p.m.), Dave Burden of Southeast Expeditions and I noted an adult male
Anhinga soaring above the channel at the new boat ramp on the southeastern
portion of the Eastern Shore of Virginia NWR. This marked only the second
time
I've seen the species in the county and Dave's first.
The White-winged Dove in Cape Charles stayed only an additional 2 days,
singing from between 10 Randolph Avenue and its original locations. While
jogging
this past Thursday along BayCreek's nature trails (recommended for fall
migrants) in Cape Charles, I saw a hen Wild Turkey with 9 pullets along the
northernmost section of the trails (northeast of Reliable Building Products) -
first
time I had seen evidence of breeding in the town limits.
I recently learned that the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher that wandered the
southern tip of the peninsula in May had not been posted - sorry about that.
I
have not been able to check Va-Bird often enough to see what gets posted from
other observers here; will try to look more frequently and post what I hear
about.
