During a 15 mile Bald Eagle survey today Sandy Spencer & I observed our first Osprey of the year on the Rappahannock River. The male was fishing approximately 1/2 mile upriver from Port Royal.
We observed 130 Bald Eagles (59 adult, 64 immature, 7 unidentified) between Leedstown and Mount Swamp (c. 5 miles above the Port Royal Bridge) between 0800-1130. The previous Saturday (2.18.06) Fred Atwood, Sandy Spencer and I totaled 124 Bald Eagles (63 adults, 61 immature) from Tappahannock to Leedstown until a snow whiteout caused us to suspend the count at 1130.
