[v-webmail] vwm & courier imap

Hi All,
I've been playing with v-webmail for some time now. I've decided that on the
box i have running courier imap (1.7.3) retrieving mail/viewing messages is
SLOW.
I am talking anywhere from 5-20 seconds to list the inbox/view a message.
However, using another account with the same amount of mail on a server
running Cyrus, the response is instantaneous.
I've played around with extended_listing, gids, I'm using php accelerator....
same imap/ssl setting for both servers.
I just can't figure out what the deal is & am wondering if anyone else has
run into this problem/is using Courier imap without difficulty.
