Caden had wanted to join Starfleet when he discovered that his sister
was going to do so. He was a few years older than she was so he had
already been in University when she started at the Academy. In fact he
didn't start his Academy level schooling until after her death in 2378.
He remembered teasing her about not being the Valedictorian of her
class, and when he started he understood, finally, why she had been so
frustrated with him.
He and Marnie had been married for several years when they decided to join Starfleet. He as an engineer, her Starfleet Medical was waiting for her. It was difficult for them, because they already had the two boys, Davey and Zak, who were 12 months and 4 years old respectively, when they entered their Starfleet training.
