Although Marnie had given some thought to applying to Starfleet Medical
when she finished her degree in Biology, she already knew that she
wanted to be closer to Caden, whom she had known since they were in
their early teens. When they finished their graduate studies in South
Africa, and got married, Marnie accepted a residency offer in Adelaide,
just a few hours by groundcar from the outback settlement where she'd
grown up. Being close to her family made it possible for her to keep up
with the pace of a hospital residency without worrying about the daily
care of her young son, who was born at the end of their first year of
marriage. It was at the completion of her medical residency that Marnie
and Caden decided to join Starfleet, but they had another newborn son at
the time, so put off their applications for a few months.
In their year at Starfleet Academy, Marnie split her time between
morning classes and afternoons in the clinic, while Caden studied ship
operations full-time. Upon commissioning, they were assigned to
Starbase 326, where he was a member of the Engineering Research Team
while she furthered her knowledge of interspecies medicine in the
starbase hospital. When the research project concluded, Caden and
Marnie (and their sons) were transferred to the USS Farragut.
With the Farragut going into drydock for extensive refits, the family
has been transferred again to the USS Meridian.
