Zachary dropped the chess piece and froze, looking across the board at Senek, his eyes filled with sudden and absolute terror. Senek supposed they both should have been asleep but he wasn't quite sleepy yet, just bone weary and, though it was illogical, more than a bit wired up by what had happened. The chess game seemed like a reasonable solution for both him and Zachary. When the boy dropped the chess piece, though, Senek's head jerked upward from his studying of the board. "What is the matter, Zachary?" he asked, getting up to kneel next to him. Zachary began to shake, the terror taking hold. "He's gone. I can't feel him, Senek...he's not here...." The terror seemed to grow logarithmically as the realization embedded itself further in his mind, pushing forward that which had been kept in shadows. All at once, he was left alone inside his own mind to face a lifetime of pain that seemed to grow as it loomed there before him. For the first time he was forced to deal with a lifetime of madness long kept at bay by one who seemed to no longer be there. Dark brows drew together and he laid a gentle but firm hand on Zack's face, to get his eyes focused forward. "What is going on, Zachary? Tell me." "Joshua," Zachary whispered, his eyes welling with great tears. "He's gone." Senek shook his head. That hardly seemed possible. True, the man was hurt but he doubted the captain would have left if there was any chance that Joshua would not live. "What do you mean--gone?" Even as full of analgesics as he was, he was still in pain but that didn't lessen the strength of the arm that wrapped around Zack's shoulders. "Calm yourself, kaisu. Tell me." Great racking sobs tore through his body as the pain took hold. He seemed to collapse in on himself as the pain and terror engulfed him completely, without the buffer of Josh's mind to protect him from it all. Drawing himself into a fetal position, he ceased to speak, as his mind was engulfed by memories long suppressed. If he had been kneeling before, Senek dropped to his knees bending over the small young man. It wasn't something he did consciously but his right hand touched Zack's face in just the same position as if it were a mind meld. He could have sworn his finger tips burned. "Sancta Maria, Mater Dei...no..." Still barefoot and without his uniform jacket, Senek scooped the collapsed Zachary up into his arms then stood, all in one flowing motion. He shook his head, as if to try and erase that which he'd seen, then headed straight for the door. He managed to tap his comm badge as he fairly ran. "Sick Bay, this is Commander Menkara. I am bringing in my student--medical emergency. I will be there shortly." Not giving them time to reply, he stepped into a turbolift, gave it direction, then tapped the badge again. "Captain Hale, Commander Menkara. You may wish to meet us in Sick Bay..."
