ON
"The shuttles have gone out of sensor range," came the all-too young
sounding voice of the ensign sitting at OPS. Lukas had hoped it would
take a little longer for them to disappear from the Eagle's eyes.
He was sure it wouldn't take long for whomever wanted these vital
passengers to make their move.
"Keep the comm channel to them open," Lukas ordered the OPS officer.
He knew if they got into any real trouble they would hail the other
shutle. Maybe, just maybe, if things were quiet on this end and the
shuttles were close enough, Lukas could redirect the Intrepid-class
ship to assist.
"Captain," came the voice of the security officer at tactical. "I am
picking up several anomalous energy signals. Could be clokaed
fighters."
Lukas's first reaction was to look over to Lt. Tracy's station. She
was usually very quick on the uptake, but she wasn't there. She was on
the Talon with Lt. Haas. He glanced back to the OPS station.
The young female sitting in Rommie's place wasn't as quick as the
Rigellian, but he could see she was working to identify the readings.
No need to remind her of her job.
"Confirmed, Commodore," she finally reported. "I am reading four
cloaked fighters... and the Frinkta starship. They're keeping their
distance but they're out there, sir."
It made sense. If those passengers were as important as the ambassador
indicated, the Frinkta would definitely make amove on one, if not both
of te shuttles. And they would provide a distraction for the Eagle
so that they couldn't swoop in and prevent the capture of the
passengers.
"Talon is sending a coded message to Falcon, sir," came te OPS
officer's voice. Her tone was a bit more harried than Rommie's would
have been. "They're being scanned."
This is it. The Frinkta were making their move. Would the cloaked
ships currently shadowing the Eagle move on the transport, or would
they simply occupy the Eagle's attentions. They knew Eagle had the
ability to see them. Lukas listened as the OPS offficer relayed more
reports of what was happening to his shuttles. And he was stuck
escorting these vital supplies to Colony 9. Or was he?
"Bridge to Lt. Dawson," Lukas said touching the comm actuator on his
command chair. "Jeff, can we rig a couple probes to act as mahnes?"
