"Shame and Anger" Moria McEntire "Hey beautiful." Sam crooned as he leaned in the doorway of her bedroom. Looking up from her studying Moria smiled and slowly got to her feet and walked over to hug him. Noticing her slow and carefully movements, Sam frowned as he hugged her. "Your not still feeling sick are you? Did you call your mother like you said you would?" "Yes," She lied. Walking her over to the bed, Sam sat down beside her and cuddled her. "Then I guess your not feeling up to going out tonight?" Moria looked up into his honey colored eyes. "Actually I was hoping we could drive down to the Reef, maybe stay the night at that little place up the beach?" "We could do that," Sam smiled and kissed her head. "after dinner." "Dinner?" Moria asked carefully. Something in his eyes was setting off warning bells in her head. Sam swallowed. "My parents are in town and would like to have dinner with us tonight." "Oh." Was all Moria could think of to say. "Your ok with it then?" Sam asked. She wanted, needed to talk to him alone. "Yeah sure." She replied. Sam hugged her, "We'll head to the coast right after I promise." He kissed the top of her head, then tilted her head so he could kiss her properly. "I'll be back in an hour?" Moria simply nodded. ***** Two hours earlier. "So your well into your second year and you've just declared your major?" Ask the striking blonde woman sitting across from Moria. She'd been giving her a hard time ever since they sat down. Moria nodded and tried not to fidget with her water glass. "I wasn't sure what I wanted to do before now." The woman pierced Moria with ice cold blue eyes. "And now you do?" Again Moria nodded. "I work at the campus counseling center, and I enjoy the work there." "And there is wealth and power in this felid?" Asked the tall Romulan sitting next to Sam. Moria turned her smoky grey gaze towards the man addressing her. "Some, if they go into private practice, can make a nice living." "Will you be one of those?" The man asked. It was hard not to shrug. "No, Rekkhai, I most likely won't be." Disgust filled the ice blue eyes of Sam's mother. "You have something against power and wealth, Ms. McEntire?" "Neither of those things are of any importance to me, Ma'am." Moria answered honestly. "Striving for power and greed are not values my parents believe in, nor are they values their children hold." "And what values did your Lloannen'galae parents teach you?" Sam's father asked coldly. Moria beamed with pride as she answered, "That people and their lives are far more important then account balances and societal placement." Sam sat quietly and beamed at Moria in between glaring at his parents. "Are you both done being callous and rude?" "We are merely looking out for your well being and the quality of your future." His mother replied. "How long do you plan on playing with this one, dear?" Sam's face was turning a deep green. "We are not playing, Mother. Moria is my e'lev and nothing will change that." "Your young Samual this will pass." His mother cooed. "There are plenty of proper young woman on ch'Rihan that will strengthen your father's House instead of shame it." Moria felt tears sting her eyes and all of half an inch tall. Sam growled low in his chest. "I will not sit here and allow you to degraded my e'lev, especially while she sits here." Bolting to his feet he threw his napkin on the table and then helped Moria to her feet. "Come on, e'lev, we're leaving." Sam's father rose to his feet and Moria blinked. She'd never seen a Romulan so tall and broad shouldered. He looked as if he were even bigger then her Dad. "You will sit and you will apologize." The man bellowed. Sam put his arm around Moria. "You will apologize and until you do we have nothing else to say to each other." Sam didn't give his parents time to protest, knowing that they would never apologize for being asses. He and Moria walked out of the restaurant and when the valet brought the car he helped Moria in. Moria knew Sam was angry but she didn't know how angry until the car started to speed up. "Sam I'm so..." "Don't Moria." Sam rumbled. "It wasn't your fault so don't you dare say your sorry." "Where are we going?" She asked as she made sure her seat belt was on. "You said you wanted to go to the Reef." He answered as he passed other ground cars and even hover cars on the highway. Moria had never felt scared with Sam and his car until now. "I.. I do.. I.. have something to tell you.. Sam please slow down." His response was to speed up. She could feel the car pulling to the right and Sam fighting to keep it aligned on the road like it should be. The scenery outside the windows moved at a blur and the lines on the asphalt where no longer detectable. "Sam please slow down!" She asked again, but when she looked over, the numbers on the dash were increasing instead of decreasing. "Sam please!" The anger and rage in Sam's eyes scared her and Moria had to turn away. She looked out the windshield of the Mustang and panic ripped through her at the sight of the sharp turn up ahead. Her voice stuck in her throat as she felt the car and it's force take control completely away from Sam. It felt as if her body was being torn in two as the momentum of the car forced it to the right, the turn going to the left. "SAM!" It happened in an instant, but it felt like forever to Moria. The sounds reaching her first, then the impact, pain, blinding light and then engulfing darkness.
