I have modified chess sets in the past, and all it takes is a few dollars and
careful work. Here’s how, basically: Go to a game store and find a set you
like. Then, get a glue that will dry to form a hard surface and place a drop
of it somewhere on each black piece so that it can easily be identified and let
them dry. Now for the board: At any hobby or craft store, you can buy rolls
of strip magnet that have adhesive backing. Find a roll that is just about the
width of the squares on your board. Cut the strips into squares. With a
brailled ruler, or with one square that someone cuts for you as a guide, stick
a square of magnet on a corner square and press. Cover the board with these,
then add a second magnet to each black square ti give raised squares. Also
stick a square of magnet to the bottom of each chess piece. You will never
have to worry about loose fitting peg board sets again, and you will get a set
that you like without much cost.

Hi,
I have a chess set from Hadley. It's about ten years old. There has never been
a snug fit between some of the board's holes and some of the pieces. In some
cases, the holes are too big -- no piece fits snugly. In other cases, the base
of some pieces are too small -- these pieces don't fit snugly into any hole.
I haven't tried filling in the "too large" holes. I've tried wrapping tape
around the base of the "too small" pieces, but the tape doesn't stick for very
long.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be appreciated. It's one of
the main reasons I keep losing interest in chess.
