Maybe this is old news. I haven’t been out much lately so I was surprised to
see a couple dozen swallows at Plat I today.
On another subject: Knowing when our winter birds leave is always more
challenging than noting their arrivals. We’ve had a white-throated sparrow
since mid Dec and I think left about two weeks ago. Meanwhile our resident
Townsend’s warbler is still here. He also arrived mid Dec. We put hard boiled
egg yolk out for him everyday … and try to keep the other birds from gobbling
it down first. For a long time he got most of the egg yolk, but then the
English Sparrows decided it is pretty good stuff. He is often out there
waiting for his next meal.
