Hello All,
Thanks for all your good work Glen. I’m super excited about this network!
For those I haven’t yet met face-to-face, I’m Shane. I’m employed by Uniting as
the “Church Engagement Leader” for the Sydney Presbytery region and am also a
part of the Presbytery staff team. I’ve spent most of my life in the Church,
but began to really question what it meant to be a disciple of Jesus in my
early university years. This led to a passion for mission, community
development, and a desire to see Christians engage meaningfully (and in a
Christ-like way!) in the public sphere. On top of my work, I’m currently
completing a Master of Theology through United Theological College and worship
at St George’s Anglican in Paddington. Previously, I completed a BA-Psychology
at Macquarie University and have worked for both Mission Australia and the
Salvation Army.
A big portion of my role is to connect with congregations across the Presbytery
and explore how I (and Uniting) can support them in their mission and
engagement with the community. This includes supporting congregations to access
funding via Uniting’s Innovative Community Grants
Fund<https://uniting.org/about-uniting/social-justice/grant-programs> for that
very purpose! If you’re interested in this or would just like to connect, I’d
love to hear from you! Just drop me a line via email or give me a buzz (see
contact details below).
Looking forward to connecting and hearing from you all via this network. ☺
Peace,
Shane Fenwick

Subject: [ucamission] Welcome aboard folks!
Hi - I've been updating the invitation list to this e-list, so now is as good a
time as any to start some conversation.
The core purpose of this e-list is to assist with networking across Sydney
Presbytery, with a view to developing a shared understanding of our mission and
encouraging public engagement. There's a blurb that outlines the list's aims
here<http://sydneypresbytery.org.au/networks/mission-witness-engagement-advocacy-network/>.
I'm hoping this e-list will support real life face to face networking rather
than becoming a substitute for real conversations...
So welcome. Let me encourage you to introduce yourselves virtually. I'm Glen
- the new mission person at the Presbytery office. I've worked as a community
organiser with civil society organisations (churches, unions, charities etc.)
and was the New Congregations Consultant in the Board of Mission of the NSW-ACT
Synod from 2000-2010. Before that I was a musician. I have qualifications
economics and theology and recently completed a mid-life crisis PhD looking at
building leadership capacity in not-for-profits.
Happy to meet one to one with anyone on this list, and looking forward to some
group gatherings.
In partnership,
Glen Powell
