found out sometihng may help some xp users....... seems xp has a nice little
messup built in ... I got an avi joke file I downloaded... and in the process
of downloading my dsl get zapped... needless to say..... file got
corrupted...... and seems xp doesnt like to delete an avi file when its
corrupt.... seems
there is a bit of a problem they claim is due to "tunneling"..... no idea what
that means... but... all the supposed fixes all turn out to be a no go.....
when you attempt to delete the file it says" file in use by another person or
prgam, and cant not be deleted and blah, blah, blah blah".. it also couldnt be
nmoved nor remaned.. same sort of message comes up...... so ok... did the
regedit
fixes... no go.... deleted the inprocess32 server for avi files in the
registry... no go...... and doing a google search... found this neat
tidbit........
all one needs do is to open notepad... start-run- type in "notepad" in the
open box and click ok... when notepad opens.... go to file.. open and find the
folder with your bad avi file... change file types to all files.... and there
is
your bad file... scroll to it... hit delete and ctrl same time and zap.. its
gone.. not even to the recycle bin... gone for good..... and doing a few other
checks... find it also works on all sorts of corrupt files to delete
them.....all the regedit stuff all failed even MS knowledge base articles
telling
about regisrty entries to change etc all didnt work... but the notepad trick...
gone in a flash... might be something others may need to check out for those
other impossible to delete files...... my checks so far indicates it works for
them also..... had a couple messed over drives and hooked them up and cleaned
them out in a jiff....... chuck... in Ok
