I would think that if you scheduled whatever tasks you need conducted and then set the PC to go into standby mode after the amt. of time needed to process these tasks it should all work out. This is what Win98's "Help" index points out: "Open the Power Management Properties dialog box by clicking Start, pointing to Settings, clicking Control Panel, and clicking Power Management." "In Power Schemes, click the arrow, and then select a power scheme. *The time settings for the power scheme are displayed* in System standby, Turn off monitor, and Turn off hard disks." It seems juggling the amt. of time of the "tasks" to be conducted and setting the "power management" function to engage at the appropriate time, after the scheduled tasks are finished. This is what needs to be configured so as not to interfere with each other, wouldn't you say? BTW, I've never used either of these functions on any of my PCs. If only Santa would bring me a laptop... armando. 8) On Sat, 13 Dec 2003 03:20:37 -0500, Harold B wrote: > > Hello List, > > I have Windows 98 and I put the computer in Standby > mode each > night (or when I'm not using it for a short period of > time) so > as not to keep opening and shutting the system, and > contrary > to what some say, I have no trouble with it. > > One reason I don't use Task Scheduler (like during the > night) > is that I don't want the computer to remain ON "just > waiting > for me to use it again" ...
