Sandy, Norton System Works can often mess up any Windows installation. I've come to the conclusion that it is a "loveit or hate it" issue with most people. Some can't live without it, others, like me, won't touch it with a 10 ft. pole. Did you reinstall Norton's on your new Win98 reinstallation? Hope you learned from your previously described mistake so that you will not err anew? If not, you may have to reinstall again. Since you mention you have a second hard drive, you could easily make a copy of your newly reinstalled OS to it, and if need be, you can then use it to reinstall it. You simply start your PC in "Safe Mode". Now open a DOS window and at the "C:\Windows>" prompt type "xcopy32 C:\*.* D:\*.* /s/e/r/v/k/f/c/h", sans quotes. You will be warned that "..using a DOS command in Safe Mode can corrupt..." - Ignore it. Do as I typed above, sans quotes, and you will have ghosted your new installation to a second hard drive. You could just as well "xcopy32 C:\*.* [any hard drive or partition]{filename}\*.* /s/e/r/v/k/f/c/h" , catch the drift? For instance, I have a 40 GB HDD partitioned ito 4 equal sizes(4 10GB). Into E:\Win981 I've copied C:\*.* and then after applying my preferred tweaks I've made a 2nd copy with the applied tweaks of C:\*.* into E:\Win982, thus saving a copy with the tweaks also. In my case, I would have to "xcopy32 E:\Win981\*.* C:\*.* /s/e/r/v/k/f/c/h" to restore my system to its original configuration...and so on. If you would like addl. info on this process, let me know and I'll look up a saved (somewhere) link I have to this process. It works well in Win98 and beats buying "Ghost", IMO.
