At the beginning of the year, there were seven TN counties without any butterflies documented as occurring within them at the BAMONA website, as follows: Carroll Crockett Gibson Giles Moore Union Weakley Thanks to a lot of effort on the part of quite a few observers, six of these counties were released from no-'fly zone status earlier in the year. Yesterday I made a quick visit to Giles County, the last no-'fly zone in the state, and photo-documented ten species of butterflies, bringing to an end the last of such zones within Tennessee. Now I hope the focus of attention will switch from the no-'fly zones to what we might call single digit midget 'fly zones-i.e., counties that have fewer than ten species of butterflies listed at BAMONA. Currently, here is that list, thirteen strong and waiting for release from this particular form of butterfly Hades: Bedford (4) Claiborne (1) Crockett (2) Hancock (3) Haywood (8) Houston (3) Jefferson (5) Lincoln (3) Moore (8) Robertson (5) Tipton (1) Union (9) Weakley (7) Happy butterfly photo ops, Steve Stedman Cookeville (Putnam County)
