Hi Folks,
Another beautiful day produced another great count. We were blessed with 29
species and 1304 individuals. This and the Clifton Bend count last week both
broke the 1000 individual barrier, the first two spring counts I've ever had to
do as much. Orange Sulphurs were definitely the stars of the count as the
fields in the park yielded an amazing 495 individuals. This species has been
going strong for at least a month. Other highlights included the 5 Harvesters
we saw (always a treat) and an early Hayhurst's Scallopwing and Little Yellow.
We also had a couple of Giant Swallowtails, a species that is rarely
encountered in Shelby County.
