Hi Folks,
Here are the results from today's Meeman-Shelby Forest count. We had a very
nice day in the field, even if a little hot. The Mississippi River flooding
impacted large areas of the count circle, in particular two of our most
productive areas. The loss of Eagle Lake WMA really lowered the amounts of
sulphurs we saw plus that area is where we most commonly see Viceroys and
Monarchs and many grass-skippers. We did get lucky with a beautiful fresh
Funereal Duskywing at the end of the dry part of the road coming off the bluff
to the WMA. It was nectaring on the few fogfruit that were in a narrow strip
along the road and the water. Attached is a blurry iPhone pic when it flew
across the road into the leaves. With the lack of coverage it's no wonder we
only saw 27 species.

for habitats. Habitat changes since last year: Eagle Lake WMA was completely
flooded this year. This area gives us lots of open field species and wetland
