July 25, 2009. Kentucky Manor, 5211 Kentucky Avenue, Nashville, Davidson County, TN 360934N (36.15944) and 0865102W (-86.85055) Kentucky Manor's first Cloudless Sulphur for the season and species number 25 for the season enjoyed nectaring on July 25. Interesting, another individual had passed in front of the car that morning while out on an errand. As this species has been reported widespread in the state from March 9, the Manor must get the later migration push or the observer isn't observing. The 25th was a day for swallowtails that are black with a Pipevine and Black noted several different times nectaring. Do they ever hold still? The fruit sock was active on the 25th with three individuals of two species enjoying watermelon at the same time--Hackberry Emperor (2) and a Question Mark. The wing bit Emperor Hackberry that had not been seen since the 21st was back and also fed on the sock. Cabbage Whites are everywhere from dawn to dusk and roost in the vegetation. A pair was observed mating. Michael Lee Bierly, Nashville, Davidson County, TN
