Two adult Yellow-crowned Night-Herons were standing on or near an old nest (probably built in 2002) at Burgess Falls State Natural Area, Putnam Co., TN, this morning. I checked the nest site last Wed. without seeing any birds, so they probably arrived in the interim. Last Wed. I saw an adult YCNH about 3-4 miles south of another area where this species has nested in the past near Algood, Putnam Co., TN, so there are probably at least two breeding pairs in the county, as has been the case in most years since at least 1987.
