i'm not sure it's all that unusual but instead of the maximum number of three
ruby throated hummingbirds today i have at least 6 and it looks more like an
infestation of carpenter bees (with which i have lived in the past). they seem
to be "dancing" together as well as guarding the feeder so no one else can
dine. also our large family of barn owls has been flying across the yard since
about 3 pm. i believe it's mostly the 2 younger ones but i don't see the
earlier noted adult bird where it was. i assume all 4 adult (2 semi adult)
birds will be here at dusk as usual. this is the first time we've seen the
birds fly around in the daytime. we still have yet to see the "little" owlets
that we know are in the silver maple cavity tho. i'll post it when we see
them. there seems to be a much larger than usual bunch of male goldfinches at
the feeders too-i'd estimate about 20-don't know where the females have gone.
