I have huge numbers of hummers right now...must refill my five feeders daily and three of them are 32 oz and two are 48 oz size. I usually have several hummers through the summer and then a large increase in late summer. I had always supposed it was because of the babies maturing enough to come to the feeders, and maybe that is some of it, but may not be the whole story behind the huge population explosion. My other theories include early migrants, other neighbors losing their motivation to keep feeders filled during the dog days, and a dearth of blooming material during late summer. Anyone else have thoughts? I am going through five pounds of sugar every three or four days...
