Kathie Holder:

Perhaps everyone else in Shelby County got the idea there are no Chipping
Sparrows in winter because they didn'tt know they all spend the winter at
your house ;-) Goes to show the impact a good feeder effort can have on an
entire county :-0

Let's go birding....

Subject: [TN-Bird] chipping sparrows - Shelby County

> We are in Southwestern TN. We are participating in GBBC. We have kept 28+
feeders full in our backyard each winter for the past three years. (fewer
feeders in the summer). One of our sons and myself counted 54 chippies in
our backyard this morning. We have Chippies each winter and we keep a few
year round. Yesterday we counted 30+ (or so).
> When we were entering our information into the GBBC we had to go out to
rare birds to enter Chippies and I thought that was strange, because we
always have Chippies.
>
> I looked in our "Shelby County Occurance of Birds" brochure and it says
that we do not have Chippies here in the winter. Well, we sure do. If
anyone wants to see some shot you can email me. As we were taking shots of
the Chippies, a Field Sparrow hopped into the shot and I have a close up of
a Chippie and a Field Sparrow side by side. A Blue Bird also hopped into
the shot. We had a great bird day with 50+ Chippies, 80+ Dove, 60+
Goldfinch, etc,. etc.
