GRACKLES, and very possibly more. On a cold, December day many years ago, I saw a steady stream of migrating blackbirds, mostly grackles, all the way up highway 41-A from Shelbyville north to where it intersects with 31-A . Another time, this one in Florida. several of us observed millions of gulls (mostly ring-bills) that just kept coming in a steady stream for TWO days, day and night, during bad weather. I lived near the Indian River in Indialantic; Allan and Helen Cruickshank lived right across the road from the Indian River in Rockledge, and Maggie Bowman, a well known birder in Florida & New York, had a winter home on the river in Wabasso. The birds were going past all three places during the same period. I went down to Maggie's, and we took turns watching and staying in touch with the Cruickshanks whose home was about 50 miles up river from us.Even Allan said that he didn't realize there were THAT many gulls in the whole world!!!!!!! It was an unbelievable two days, and there was a light rain along with the cold weather the whole time.
