Subject: [TN-Bird] Re: Wings of Winter
It was a great festival. Enough cannot be said about the hard work and
dedication of the organizers, the presenters, State Park and Refuge Staff, and
those who led excursions.
My personal thanks to Morton Massey for calling our attention to Tundra Swans
at the end of a long day birding.
Grace & Peace,

Unsure what were the "specific wows" last weekend...
was it the swirls of Lapland Longspurs or the Horned Lark allowing my daughter
a great look and see its "horns"?
Was it the numbers of Bald Eagles calling, interacting...sometimes
fighting....one even taking off from his spot on the water...glided in and
snatched a mallard...?
Or was it watching a female bluebird bathe in a newly formed puddle from the
melting snow?
Perhaps it was seeing the dozen red-headed woodpeckers seen on one hike...or
watching the Brown Thrasher tossing leaves right and left?
Were the numbers of Goldeneyes so many that you couldn't count...
was it the words used to describing your favorite bird ooetically...frozen in
time at that moment because you wrote it down?...
was it being able to identify the Cackling Goose on your own because someone
taught you recently how to identify it?
was it being so immersed that you were venturing with Audubon or holding that
lil' baby bird...did you think you could say something to Jemima ...to
Audubon...??
whatever the case...perhaps it was because you were longing to just relax and
bird...and bird...and bird...
Thinking back, it was a collection of all of the above putting "feathers in my
birding cap..."
