Musick's Campground
South Holston Lake
Sullivan County
13 Mar 2006
The second half of Monday's "13 of the month" Bristol Bird Club field trip
included birding at Muisck's Campground on South Holston Lake and at PowerLine
Farm on nearby Pemberton Road.

The best bird was a female White-winged Scoter at Musick's Campground. We
spent an hour trying to get adequate looks and field marks due to the high
waves and wind blowing our scopes. Finally, with some calm periods and closer
looks, we could get a good identification.

We also saw 9 Eared Grebes, 8 Pied-billed Grebes and 50-60 Ring-billed Gulls.
An accipter past nearby carrying large prey but we did not get good looks.

Our party saw 5 Red-tailed Hawks between PowerLine Farm and Musick's. All were
soaring. We also had White-crowed Sparrows at the farm.

Birders included: Charlie Parker, Ellen Parker, Larry McDaniel and Wallace
Coffey.

Let's go birding......
