Good afternoon Birders,
This morning I headed down to the Marina to meet Scott Somershoe and see if the
White-winged Scoter was still present. I'm happy to report that he's still
there and today swam right up to the closest shoreline so we got a terrific
look at him before he took off to the far side. Also present this morning was
a Hooded Merganser, a Shoveler, a Bufflehead, 1 Redhead Duck, 5 Lesser Scaup,
20 Canada Geese and about 49 Ring-billed gulls. The sun peeked it's head out
from behind the clouds just as Mike O'Malley joined us and we all enjoyed
another look at the WWS.

About mid-afternoon Steve and I ran back by there again. WWS was still
there...this time to the far right where we had first seen him on Christmas
Eve. Just about all the other birds of earlier in the day were still there
accept the Merganser and the Bufflehead. As we stood there a kettle of about
40 Turkey and Black Vultures drifted into view...riding those warm thermals.
Then from out of no where it seemed came a Sharp-shinned Hawk..flying really
low over Riverside Drive and swooping out over the Marina. It was a good day
behind the Shell Station!

As always,
Happy birding!
Steve and Cyndi Routledge
