Victor Stoll and I got part of the day off from a job in Savannah, so we
spent some time birding adjacent areas.
Savannah Bottoms, Hardin County, had the biggest surprise of the day,
with a large, loose group of very vocal WESTERN MEADOWLARKS. We spent some
time counting and recording the birds, and settled on a count of 46.
Also here were some Rusty and a BREWERS BLACKBIRD.
Coffee Landing Road produced the rest of the high lights, with a Ross's
and 4 Greater White-fronted Geese, 8 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, 1 LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHER, 7 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and a Greater Yellowlegs. These birds,
along with Killdeers, made a 5-shorebird day.
An Osprey at the dam was also a year bird for my brother.
Good birding! Ruben Stoll, Centerville TN
