Went briefly by Ky Lake on Saturday Lake level is very high, part of Paris Landing is flooded Britton Ford is also under water and the lower road along the lake is closed On Sunday, I birded Reelfoot to Memphis Nothing special around the lake, but with all the water around, the levee was more interesting Flowers Sheep Road which washed out several years ago, now dead ends just west of the levee (this is the old road to Island 13) Scott Somershoe had mentioned looking here for shorebirds in an earlier posting With the river at flood stage, there is no shorebird habitat, but the area is attracting numbers of terns Seen were 50 Least Terns, 6 Forster's Terns, 3 Black Terns, and 1 Common Tern perched on a floating log Bank Swallows are around, probably nesting in the area In another spot, a group of Ring-billed Gulls included one adult Laughing Gull At the pits in Memphis, a male Painted Bunting finally responded to tape at the usual spot, but it took some time and two trips I had no luck finding Western Kingbirds at the TVA power plant, and also at the McLemore Road power station I decided to try President's Island again (third try this year) No luck on Channel Avenue, but on the drive out on Harbor Drive at the APAC operation, address 1210, one W Kingbird was on the wires and seemed reluctant to leave Not sure how reliable it will be, but may be worth a shot I must have just missed the Fulvous Whistling-Duck at Ensley this morning, can't win em all Terry Witt Murfreesboro Tn
