Sunday, Dec. 12, I took a short break from Christmas shopping and drove by
the pond at the Pellissippi State campus in west Knox County. The only
birds on or near the water at 3:30 p.m. were two ring necked ducks and a
great blue heron.

The red breasted nuthatch was again sighted in my pine tree, also Sunday
afternoon, west Knox County, Tennessee. It's been around for about 3 weeks
now but it's still a treat each time I manage to glimpse it.
