3-25-04 I drove through Old Highway 63 in Campbell County, TN this morning en route to an apt in Scott County. At my first pull-off along Cove Creek near Caryville I heard a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH singing! It is still a thrill after all these years to hear my first Spring Warblers singing, especially when you pull off the road at appropriate habitat and it seems as if it sings immediately on cue! Maybe it is a thrill because the migrants are so reliable, and show up right at the appointed time each year and are like old friends arriving for a season. My second singer was YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER (2) today. In SCOTT COUNTY, I saw 2 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS (in separate areas) Other Spring firsts in Scott were BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER - Blue-Headed Vireo and 2 more YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS singing. I also saw a Tiger Swallowtail . Wildflowers are springing forth- Hepatica/ Bloodroot a single Trout Lily- Trillium and Spring Beauty.
