9-15-09, A.M. This morning I found two large mixed species warbler flocks at Hampton Creek Cove natural area in Carter Co. Both flocks were well up (between 1-2 miles on the Overmountain Trail segment) from the parking area. I followed one flock for ~45 minutes as it foraged. The birds were so single-mindedly intent on gorging for their migration, and also maybe feeling secure in such a large flock, that they very often perched on branches 8 ft. or so away, allowing a welcome respite from warbler neck! I looked them over carefully hoping to find a Gray-Cheeked in the group but they were all Swainson's.
