J. Percy Priest Lake Davidson Co., TN 2014 Feb. 1 7:40-11:15 With the plethora of White-winged Scoter sightings in eastern Tennesse I headed out to J. Percy Priest Lake to see what was there. At Anderson Rd. Rec. Area I had a group of 10 WHITE WINGED SCOTERs that were close enough to get distant photos and 6 COMMON GOLDENEYEs. About half of the scoters were adult males. Later in the day on my second visit to the area there were 6 COMMON MERGANSERs, including 2 males, there. I later drove up to Seven Points Rec Area for a view of the lake from the opposite end. There I found another 12 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERs and 10 COMMON MERGANSERs. Also seen during the morning were Nashville birders Phillip Casteel, Mike Smith, Richard Connors, and Jan Shaw who were out in 2 separate parties, enjoying the birds on the lake as well.
