East Tennessee, Grainger County (east of Knoxville), Cherokee Lake above Cherokee Dam Mike Nelson and I arrived about 4:30 p.m. at the Grainger County site where Dean Edwards reported the Western Grebe and Red-throated Loons and we quickly located the WESTERN GREBE in a small group of HORNED GREBES and RING-BILLED GULLS. The wind was blowing up the lake from the dam (easterly) and moving all the birds east, away from the dam. We then scanned up the lake to the east and found two very distant RED-THROATED LOONs and a couple of COMMON LOONS. By about 5:15 no birds were visible on the water, except a lone Ring-billed Gull that seemed to be staying in the same location. We also found the following: Pied-billed Grebe Mallard Northern Shoveler Red-breasted Mergansers Killdeer Mourning Dove Ruby-crowned Kinglet White-throated Sparrow David Trently Knoxville, TN dtrently@xxxxxxx =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
