Vermilion Flycatcher & Pace Point Loons update: I just received a call from Jeff Wilson, who made back up to Pace Point this afternoon. On the way over, he stopped and had the immature male Vermilion Flycatcher at Lake O'Neal again. Regarding loons, it looks like there may have been a movement of birds into the area. He had poor conditions with lighting, rain, and fog as well. Jeff had 200 loons late this afternoon, with 30 on the Rocky Point side, where lately there haven't been being over 1 or 2. Only 1 bird was on this stretch of water yesterday. With the dark conditions a lot of the birds spent their time sleeping while Jeff was up there this afternoon. On the Rocky Point side he did have 1 Pacific Loon, and on the TN River side, where most of the loons are still using, he had 2 Red-throated Loons. Jeff hasn't seen the Yellow-billed this afternoon, but heard that some people from PA were down on Tuesday or Wednesday and had the bird then. More people will be looking tomorrow so hopefully it will turn back up. Good birding!!
