I just wanted to remind everyone that the UT Plant Science Farm on Alcoa Hwy in Blount Co., TN is now CLOSED to the general public and birding is no longer permitted there. Only UT staff and students conducting projects on the farm are allowed entry. Remember, this is an active research facility. The area is patrolled by the UT Police. Knoxville TOS has a special arrangement with the caretaker that allows a small party access for the Knoxville Christmas Count and the Knox County Spring and Fall Counts but even they are subject to being stopped and questioned by the police. KTOS asks that birders please observe the restrictions so as not to endanger this agreement. The closure is partly for security concerns but also for safety and liability issues as there are strong pesticides and herbicides being tested on the farm in the growing season (I'm sure you've noticed the decontamination sheds if you've ever birded there).
