A note to Tennessee birders and e-birders:In spite of our small-scale irruption earlier this month, the American Tree Sparrow remains a rarity throughout almost all of Tennessee and still needs to be identified carefully and supported with thorough details. I've been seeing quite a few reports with skimpy or incomplete details, which is making it difficult to evaluate to what extent these birds really are lingering in the area.
Most of the Am. Tree Sparrows seem to have left within a week or two of their initial arrival in early March, Any that remain should be treated exactly the same as they would have been last year: a quite rare bird in most of Tennessee (including ALL of middle Tennessee), needing full documentation.
