The brown pelican was still at this location at 2:40 this afternoon. It's repeatedly floating downstream a couple of hundred yards and then flying back up closer to the dam to float tail first downstream again while looking for fish.
Four spillways are open and dumping water and probably stunning fish. There is also a lot of heron, cormorant, black vulture, and osprey activity below the dam.
The black vultures had a great blue heron surrounded on the rocks. I wondered if they were trying to intimidate it into barfing up a fish. Or maybe the heron was holding a fish too large to swallow whole. Anyone ever seen this vulture behavior?
