Some family and I arrived at Ft. Loudon Dam at 7:40 pm tonight and did not see the Brown Pelican until 8:13 when it was seen flying upstream and landing on the water below the dam. It slowly floated downstream and was still there when we left around 8:30.

The brown pelican was still at the same location under the dam at 5:32 pm Sunday afternoon. Chad Beachy Centerville TN

It's repeatedly floating downstream a couple of hundred yards and then
flying back up closer to the dam to float tail first downstream again
while looking for fish.

Four spillways are open and dumping water and probably stunning fish.
There is also a lot of heron, cormorant, black vulture, and osprey
activity below the dam.

The black vultures had a great blue heron surrounded on the rocks. I
wondered if they were trying to intimidate it into barfing up a fish. Or
maybe the heron was holding a fish too large to swallow whole. Anyone
ever seen this vulture behavior?

A minor correction to the Brown Pelican location. It is below Ft.
Loudoun Dam, not above it. It was very easy to see from the parking lot
that is on the Lenoir City side. That is in Loudon County.
