[TN-Bird] Sightings Report,15 & 17 Nov 07, Ensley Bottoms area, Memphis, Shelby County

Sightings Report,15 & 17 Nov 07, Ensley Bottoms area, Memphis, Shelby County
Location:     TN 2 Mem,TVA PONDS

Observation date:     11/17/07

Notes:     The Raft of waterfowl is starting to form up as each day goes by.
Had seen two male Hooded Mergansers earlier in the week and today 4 males
and 2 females were present. Riverport rd ponds and sloughs have no water so
the TVA lakes is the best they have this year in the bottoms.

Location:     TN 2 Mem, Maxson Wastewater Lagoons(The Pits)/Earth Complex

Observation date:     11/17/07

Notes:     Only Shore bird still in big numbers is the L. Sandpipers. Pond
#4 had about 100 on it and the other 500 were scattered over pond #5.
Killdeer were spread out over everywhere. this is the most Killdeer I've
seen there at one time. LBJ's flitting along the grassy levee embankments
into the high weeds. A bit breezy warm into the hi 60's.

Location:     TN 2 Mem,TVA PONDS

Observation date:     11/15/07

Notes:     Two large rafts of birds. Half the birds visible from rd looking
to the far side(north) of the big pond the rest mostly shovelers and coots
were tucked behind the Pomegrants, so you have to walk up over the tracks
and look over and down to see the birds in close. skittish also as they take
flight quick at any sudden movement.

Observation date:     11/15/07

Notes:     Cool and windy. L SP still in with about 500 birds spread over
the two big lagoons. Where did all the Killdeer go? RT Hawks starting to
show more frequently at mid day. Kestrals still hovering over the open
fields.
