9-23-07 Shelby Park and Bottoms Davidson Co. NTOS held its Fall Flock this morning with birding and a picnic at Shelby Park and Bottoms. Though Autumn officially started today, there were few fall warblers (only 6 species) in attendance. However, there was an abundance of mimics, with at least 10 each of Gray Catbird and Brown Thrasher and a few Northern Mockingbirds. Other highlights included a Cooper's Hawk being chased, a few Tree Swallows, a heard only Sedge Wren, Wilson's Warbler, a beautiful adult male American Redstart, Scarlet Tanager, and Baltimore Oriole. A fairly new member and guests got several life birds which is always fun for everybody.
