May 8, 2004
Shelby Co. (Memphis, etc.), TN

The spring IMBD count for Shelby County reached 141 species with 19
observers. Since Memphis TOS began the second Saturday in May IMBD count
when it was launched in 1992, the previous high species total had been 140.
We stopped the late April spring field days (our peak migration time
here) in the late 1990's, as it seemed unnecessary to have two spring counts
in the same locations within 2 weeks of each other, producing many duplicate
results of summer residents, etc.
