MS RV- TVA Lake
Ensley, Mud lake
Shelby Co. TN

Over 2 hours spent in the rain, watching the Mississippi River paid off
again. A single Caspian Tern, 22 Forster's Terns in one flock moving down
river, 2 large flights of DC Cormorants plus a flotilla of 18 DCs just
floating
south would make a pretty fair morning but............A small, slim,
elongated, dark, black headed gull was perched up on the rock dike on the
north
end of the Loosahatchie Bar. I was pretty sure what it was but when it
preened all doubt faded as the distinct wing pattern said it all. This makes 3
straight years the Mississippi has produced a Sabine's Gull for me.

At TVA Lake, the 2 Lesser Yellowlegs were still present but 3 of the
fattest Semipalmated Plovers I've ever seen were running around like tennis
balls on the far flats. A Osprey did lazy doodles over the lake and a single
Caspian Tern looked like a 747 compared to the 2 Least Terns still hanging
around. Still just one Pectoral, a few Semipalmated Sandpipers and a few
hundred Least for the lowest tally I've ever had in September at the "Pits".
The
Buff-breasted nor the Upland found on Friday could be found over the
weekend.

Mud Lake held the big birds for the day, evidently all the Wood Storks
decided to dry out in the cypress tops after the rain. I counted 37 birds in
one sweep but there were birds moving around all the while. Some of the
birds had moved out to the middle area of the lake so I got better photos
today. No Whistlers were seen in TN but I had 8 in Mississippi.
Good Birding !!!

What is this feathered thing that lifts my heart to the heavens.
