Willie was a tease this morning as he made us wait two more anxious minutes until he popped into the light at 6:30 a.m. and took his first drink. There was an extra bit of tension because he's about to become an historical bird in a few minutes as an official CBC participant comes by and he becomes the first record of a Rufous in DeKalb County. Guess he thinks his star power makes it okay for him to arrive a couple of minutes late. He's already set a record with us of bringing us more joy than any other bird we've ever encountered (with the exception of our cockatiel, Jacob, who has been with us 13 years). Thanks for all the wonderful emails we have received from those who read our daily posts. You've made us realize how many birders are not just "listers" but truly enjoy seeing birds because of their beauty and, like us, have a real emotional involvement with these special creations of God.
