We were kind of surprised this morning when he showed up at 6:30 a.m. He stayed at the feeder until dark yesterday, at least an hour past his normal bedtime, and in the last 10 minutes made 3 trips and took 29 drinks, most of them very long ones. That made us surmise he might be getting ready to fly last night with the weather front and the impending cold weather. He's put on so much weight he appears to have no neck! So it would not have been unexpected if he had not shown up this morning. But he did, and we both laughed out loud in pleasure from seeing him again. It is such a delight to begin the day with his appearance at the feeder. We've seen him hundreds of times now but are always amazed again each morning that such a tiny creature can be so beautiful. We hope you have seen the great pictures of him available from several photographers. But nothing captures his beauty like the eye seeing him fly onto the feeder. We'll have family visiting us this weekend, but you are still welcome to come and see him.
